Hallucinogenic drugs - At Merv oasis, a little west of Urumchi (China), there is a religious complex that dates back to the second millenium BC. In its most important room, the 'White room', are storage vessels which contain traces of Poppy and Ephedra. Apparently, the poppy derivatives provide such stunning highs that the ephedra had to be used to prevent the shaman from losing consciousness? (Ref: Urials machine)
